What is the difference between process redesign and workflow automation?

Process redesign comes first. It examines how work actually flows, identifies where the process is broken or inefficient, and redesigns it so it works correctly. Workflow automation (C18) then takes a well-designed process and removes the manual steps. Applying automation before redesign is one of the most common and expensive mistakes in AI implementation — it makes a broken process faster, not better.

Do I need to have completed the AI Tools Assessment first?

Not necessarily. Many clients come to process redesign directly — they know their workflow is the problem without needing an assessment to confirm it. However, if you are unsure whether the issue is the process or the tools, the AI Tools Assessment (C16) is the right starting point. It surfaces process gaps as part of its analysis and will tell you whether C17 is the right next step.

What does the engagement involve from my side?

The audit requires your time and access. Typically: one or two structured sessions to walk through the current process in detail, access to the tools and systems involved, and a named internal contact who can answer questions as the mapping progresses. The more honest the picture of the current state, the more useful the output.

How long does a workflow audit take?

Most engagements run two to four weeks from kick-off to final deliverable. The timeline depends on the complexity of the process being audited and how quickly access and sessions can be arranged. The deliverable — process map plus prioritised action plan — is produced at the end of the engagement, not incrementally.

What happens after the audit?

The action plan is yours to implement at your own pace. Both are scoped after the audit, not before.
